SKYDATA POWERED SOLUTION
Galaxy Broadband’s SkyDATA services allow the delivery of critical and timely telecommu-nications services. Combining the benefits of satellite coverage with the HughesTM enabled IPoS standard satellite terminals, SkyDATA can meet the most demanding service require-ments. Bring technology to the business worksite wherever that might be, well off the beaten track or just beyond the digital highway, SkyData delivers the same high performance that keeps all of your users connected.
The SkyDATA difference
The HN7700 series modem operates with all HN systems and uses the industry standards DVB-S and DVB-S2. As a result, the satellite modem can be configured easily to support a wide range of downstream data rates by selecting different modulation, symbol, and FEC coding rates. The downstream is scalable up to 121 Mbps and the upstream return channel is scalable up to 1.6 Mbps. The HN7700S provides an integrated broadband LAN solution to Windows®, UNIX®, Apple® Macintosh®, and other platforms running IP over Ethernet. The power of the HN7700S allows the same platform to scale as the need for higher speed busi-ness applications grows, protecting the customer’s investment well into the future.
VoIP over Satellite
Using industry standard ATA (Analog Telephone Adaptor) or IP enabled PBXs with G.729AB 8 kbps voice codec with echo cancellation, voice activity detection, and comfort noise generation, the SkyDATA Voice offers superior quality telephony integrated with broadband IP support. VoIP support has been optimized for use with the HN system as the HN7700 will automatically reserve bandwidth on a call-by-call basis, thereby providing high-quality voice without dropped packets. The HN system also facilitates short call set-up times—typically less than four seconds—and low end-to-end delay inside the HN system. Transmission efficiency is further improved by compressing the voice packets. The Sky-DATA Network Operations Center (NOC) routes voice calls to the PSTN via SIP voice gate-ways.
For IP data packets, the HN7700S satellite router passes packets to and from any IP device on the LAN and has much of the functionality of an IP router. The HN7700S incorporates an advanced Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) feature, which increases throughput per-formance and maximizes the user’s experience and satisfaction. The HN7700S also sup-ports Hughes’ TurboPage® feature, providing HTTP acceleration for lightning-fast browser performance and advanced Quality of Service (QoS) features to ensure that applications get
the priority and bandwidth they require.

OPTIMIZATION OVER SATELLITE — CBR
Constant Bit Rate - CBR
Applications such as VoIP that require constant bit rate Inroute bandwidth are supported by a CBR-capable appliance (such as the HN7700) located at the remote site. The Constant Bit Rate (CBR) allocation of bandwidth is created dynamically on a per call basis for SIP based sessions or addition-ally assigned for specific applications that require a consistent bandwidth presentation not normally associated with a shared satellite service.
Application CBR
Key to the Galaxy Broadband managed service capabilities is our ability to “right-size” the satellite communications link and not merely throwing bandwidth at a specific performance issue. Layer 7 deep packet inspection on the remote site HN7700 allows dynamic allocation of bandwidth on a per application basis to meet session performance criteria.
As soon as an active session is detected the HN will communicate a request for additional bandwidth to be reserved for the duration of the session. Multiple ap-plications requiring CBR reservation may be operational on the same HN appli-ance,
Client IT departments, working with the Galaxy engineering team, will identify the performance metric requirements and specific application port identifiers. The next step involves a live test and performance tuning to achieve optimum performance. The end result is a specific profile that can be remotely replicated across all of the target site HN appliances.
